The Papacy in the Renaissance

After suffering a prolonged absence at Avignon and a cataclysmic division within the Church (the Great Schism), the Papacy limped back to Rome. Determined to bring about a rebirth of arts and letters in the Eternal City, the Popes began sponsoring authors, artists and architects. Plans were even afoot to rebuild St. Peter's Basilica. An adult education lecture by Dr. William Neidinger.
